About
The Top Research Scientists Malaysia (TRSM) is an ASM initiative in line with its focus on fostering a culture of excellence
in science, technology and innovation (STI). The initiative aims to identify and recognize the leading research scientists in
Malaysia. The output of this initiative is a TRSM profile that would provide a centralized point of reference on leading
scientists in Malaysia along with information on their research areas. The convention of the best minds in the country would
create a hub for knowledge dissemination that can spur the growth of STI in Malaysia.

Objectives
- To develop a list of leading research scientists
- To recognize and showcase top Malaysia research scientists as drivers of the national STI agenda
- To identify Malaysia research scientists with pioneer mindset to move the country forward in an innovation-led economy
- To build a critical mass of leading research scientists
Eligibility
- The recognition is given to research scientists holding Malaysian citizenship & working in Malaysia whose outstanding achievements in STI have been nationally and internationally recognised.
- At the time of application, the candidate should be actively involved in research (research activities in the last 5 years should be reflected in the CV) with at least 10 years cumulative contribution towards the progress of STI.
- The candidate should be of high ethical standing.
- ASM Fellows are not eligible to apply for this recognition.
Selection Criteria
The Top Research Scientists Malaysia (TRSM) will be selected through an objective and standardised scoring mechanism based on the following criteria:-

- Leadership in research
- Total number of research projects as Principle Investigator (PI)
- Cumulative value of grants received as PI (RM)
Section B - Knowledge Dissemination
- Publications
Publications (Indexed journals / books / chapter in books / monographs / articles in professional or scientific magazines as corresponding author)
- Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)
- International
- Patent granted
- Patent pending
- National
- Patent granted
- Patent pending
- Industrial design / Copyright / Trademark
- Scientific Presentations

- Cumulative gross sales and/or royalties from commercialisation of R&D products (RM)
- Academic Awards from Government, Professional and Learned Bodies

Impact of Research Towards Wealth Creation and/ or Societal Well-being This part requires a description in not more
than 250 words. The applicant write a brief essay on their impact of research that reflects excellence, relevance and
innovative leadership resulting in economic benefits or enhancement of health / education / quality of life. This
summary should reflect how the scientist’s contribution has translated into wealth creation and societal well-being.

Update Curriculum Vitae (CV) and Information in TRSM Database by TRSM Recipients
Since 2012 to 2020, a total of 196 research scientists have been recognised as Top
Research Scientists Malaysia based on their outstanding achievement and performance
in research. In order to acknowledge the TRSM Recipients activeness in Research and
Development (R&D) after 5 years of recognition, the Academy commence to showcase
them as active experts in their respective research areas through the TRSM database.
The updated CV of active TRSM Recipients can be accessed by ASM to the expertise
information when their expert services are required by the Nation.
