Young Scientists Network - Academy of Sciences Malaysia (YSN-ASM)


Young Scientists Network - Academy of Sciences Malaysia (YSN-ASM) provides a solid platform for outstanding young Malaysian scientists from diverse scientific backgrounds and expertise to interact, coordinate, organize and rise to national and international challenges. It is also a platform for young scientists to collaborate nationally and internationally, positively impact Malaysia’s science, technology and innovation ecosystem and society at large in tandem. YSN-ASM is a member of the Global Young Academy (GYA), a worldwide organisation that facilitates networking among young scientists and serves as the voice of young scientists globally.


To be a young transformational leader in Science, Technology, Innovation and Economy (STIE) for a progressive, harmonious, prosperous and sustainability society, nationally and internationally.


  • To represent the voice of young Malaysian scientists on national and international issues and give them a platform to influence policy decisions.

  • To facilitate networking opportunities among young and senior scientists to exchange knowledge and experiences.

  • To engage young scientists to be involved in addressing national issues using scientific knowledge and technology through interdisciplinary approaches and contribute towards the development of scientific capacity and awareness in Malaysia.

  • To promote career in science as the choice for young people to ensure scientific progress and sustainbility in the country.


  • A Malaysian citizen with age 45 years old and below (Age limit: Maximum 42 years old at the time of application)

  • A PhD or an equivalent degree in natural and physical sciences or equivalent research or industrial experience of at least 5 years

  • Scientific excellence, ascertained by proven track record.

  • Envisage to make difference in society.

Selection Criteria

Applications for Young Scientists Network under the umbrella of Academy of Sciences Malaysia are sought from young, independent researchers who reflect the highest levels of research excellence with a demonstrated passion for delivering impact.

  • Research fields: The call is open to all researchers working in in natural, physical sciences and social science.

  • Excellence: Applicants must be able to demonstrate a high level of excellence in their research discipline, as evidenced by their publication and research record, participation in significant national or international collaborations or demonstrated practical outcomes of their work.

  • Impact: The YSN-ASM is committed to a broad range of programmes around the country to support young researchers, promote science to the broadest possible audience, engage in policy debate and foster international and interdisciplinary collaboration. Applicants must be able to provide evidence of interest or past experience in one or more of these areas.

  • Successful candidates will be selected for 3 years term with possibility of reappointment (term limit: Maximum 45 years old). The member must submit the evaluation form at the end of their 3rd year to be evaluated and reappointed.

  • Selection priority will be given to individuals who have participated in at least one ASM programmes.
Upon successful submission, the shortlisted YSN-ASM applicants will be acknowledged with a reply email and call for an interview session (Only the shortlisted will be email). It is compulsory for the shortlisted applicants to attend the interview session and for those who failed to attend, they will not be considered for the next evaluation level.
